Duties

This Research Specialist will be responsible running the high-speed treadmill as used by the Penn Vet Equine Pharmacology Laboratory including regular exercise of horses, introducing new horses to the treadmill, training staff members in treadmill Operation, and directing emergency procedures in the event of an accident associated with the treadmill, and independently performing exercise physiology studies as directed by the program director.Duties will primarily include exercising research herd of horses on the high speed treadmill , and assistance with equine pharmacology and physiology research studies. Position located in Kennett Sq., no public trans. avail.



Qualifications

The Penn Vet Equine Pharmacology Laboratory is seeking to employ a Research Specialist to independently exercise a herd of exercised horses on the high speed treadmill. Qualified individuals must have experience independently handling horses on a high speed treadmill including horses unfamiliar with the apparatus. Extensive horse handling and training experience is also required to facilitate introduction of new research methods associated with the treadmill. Strict attention to detail and computer proficiency is required. The ability to work independently and collaboratively is essential.Research Specialist A: BA/BS or equivalent combination of education and experience.Research Specialist B: same as above, 1- 3 years of experience.
